My AI Doesn’t Answer — What Should I Check First?
If your AI assistant isn’t responding at all — no errors, no messages, just silence — don’t worry.
In most cases, the issue is caused by a simple configuration detail. Use this checklist to quickly identify and fix the problem.
1. Is the Chat Activated?
The most common reason an AI doesn’t respond is that the chat is set to inactive.
Check your website settings in the dashboard and make sure:
- The site status is Active
- The chat is not paused or disabled
If the chat is inactive, users can see the widget but won’t receive any replies.
2. Does the AI Have Training Data?
An AI assistant cannot answer questions if it hasn’t been trained yet.
This can happen when:
- The website hasn’t been scanned yet
- No manual training content was added
- Training is still in progress
Check: Make sure at least one training method (automatic or manual) has completed successfully.
3. Is Training or Chat Paused Due to Credits?
If your credits run out, training and chats are automatically paused.
In this case, the AI will not respond until your balance is topped up.
Check: Your credit balance in the dashboard.
If needed, top up your credits and reload the page.
4. Is the Widget Properly Embedded?
If the AI works in the dashboard preview but not on your website, the issue is usually related to embedding.
Verify that:
- The embed script is present on the page
- The script wasn’t modified
- The Chat Widget script is placed before the
</body>tag
A missing or broken script means the AI can’t receive messages.
5. Are You Testing on the Correct Domain?
AiFaqChat widgets are linked to specific domains.
If you’re testing on:
- A different domain
- A staging environment
- A local development URL
the widget may not respond.
Solution: Confirm the domain matches the one configured in your site settings.
6. Is the Question Outside the AI’s Scope?
If the AI appears silent only for certain questions, it may not have enough information to answer.
In this case, the AI may intentionally avoid guessing.
Solution: Add more training content or update your rules to guide fallback behavior.
Quick Checklist
- Chat is active
- Training completed
- Credits available
- Widget script is correct
- Domain matches
In most cases, one of these checks resolves the issue immediately.
